A
swimmer might be intimidated by the waves that ravage the
cinnamon-colored sands
of Jacó, but surfers from around
the world heard the call and brought a subculture with them which
locals have now embraced. Almost every establishment offers a
discount for surfeadores, and with good reason---those muscular
bodies are what keep the economy going in this simple, tourist-trap
strip of a town. Of course, all this activity comes with
a price---restaurants charge just a little more, budget accommodations
aren't quite as cheap, the streets are littered with tour agencies
and all sorts of trash, and crime and prostitution become more
common with each passing year. Nonetheless, there is a peace
to be found on the ink-black sand and crashing waves of paradise-worthy
getaway Playa Hermosa, just a few kilometers south. Hostels in Jaco |
